I have had several offers for manuscripts in the past, and decided I wasn't going to review un-published work. It occurs to me now though, how useful it can be for writers to just get a second set of eyes to look over a work in progress that isn't being read by a family member. Although I am not a professional editor, being as voracious a reader as I am, and a budding writer myself, I feel that I have something to offer in terms of giving people's books a once over. I am also really anal about pacing and whatnot, so I think I can help people who need more than just proofreading.
The prices I have seen for professional editing jobs are insane, something like $2.50 a page. I think this is pretty much absurd--- a 300 page novel costing $750 for an edit? I won't charge you that. I won't charge half that. I will be meticulous in reading your manuscript, and aside from helping with typos and that sort of thing, I will make recommendations about flow of the story, point out things that would help your characters to become more three-dimensional, and if I end up reviewing the novel closer to its release date, I'd be happy to offer a blurb for the cover, too.
If you are interested in having me take a look at your manuscript, drop me an e-mail at progressmakesperfect (at) gmail.com for information about what I'll need from you, and prices. Please include the estimated word count of your novel, as I will price based on word count and not on page numbers. Thanks for considering me to edit your manuscript!
